A Technician steals bank’s N3m laptops

A technician, Olusesan Orebajo, was yesterday arraigned before a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly stealing eight laptops valued at N3 million. The laptops belong to a bank, which he was working for.
Orebajo, whose address was not provided, is facing a charge of stealing. He, however, denied the charge. But the police prosecutor, Inspector Ben Ekundayo, said the accused committed the offence between January and July at an old generation bank at Marina on Lagos Island. Ekundayo added that the accused, who was an employee of the bank, stole eight HP laptops.
He said: “The accused had at different times stolen the laptops after official working hours. “When he was on duty, he turned the CCTV camera to a different direction and used the office access smart card to open the door to the main office and other departments.
“Olusesan (Orebajo) was eventually caught by one of the security guards.” The offence contravenes Section 285 (7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised). The section stipulates a seven-year jail term for offenders. In his ruling, the magistrate, Ade Adefulire, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
