Four police recruits die in Sokoto auto crash

At least four police recruits died while 30 others sustained various degrees of injury in an auto accident at Unguwar Rogo roundabout in Sokoto metropolis.
The accident occurred on Monday. Two of the victims died on the spot while the others died at Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto.

Witnesses said yesterday that the accident occurred as a result of reckless driving by the driver of the vehicle conveying the recruits back from the Army shooting range in Bacedi.
They said the recruits were rejoicing for their success at the training before the driver lost control of the vehicle.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abdulkadir Muhammad, and other senior police officers were at the Usmanu Danfodiyo Teaching Hospital and the Orthopaedic Hospital, Wamakko, to visit those who sustained injuries while families and sympathisers were also at the two hospitals.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Alhaji Ibrahim, who confirmed the incident, said the deceased were buried in Sokoto yesterday.
