Nigeria drop in FIFA rankings despite Cameroon win

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have dropped in FIFA rankings despite their recent impressive performance against African champions, Cameroon, in the ongoing 2018 World Cup qualifiers.
In the latest rankings released by the world football governing body FIFA on Thursday, the Eagles dropped to 44th position, six places below their August 2017 FIFA rankings in which they occupied the 38th position.
The Eagles made slight progress in the African rankings moving one spot to fifth position, ahead of African champions Cameroon. Egypt retained their number one spot in Africa followed by Tunisia, Senegal and Congo DR.
Meanwhile, Cameroon fell 10 places to number 45 in the world and sixth in Africa.
Nigeria’s next opponents in the race to Russia 2018, Zambia rose 18 places up to 78th in the world but 16th in Africa, after doing the double over Algeria who are 11th in Africa.
Germany dethroned Brazil from the summit of the ranking as number one in the world, while Portugal moved up to third putting Argentina in 4th position
