Sanusi warns politicians against violence by supporters

The Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi, has called on political leaders to caution their followers against acts of violence.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Sanusi made the call on Sunday during the traditional Hawan Nasarawa at the Government House in Kano.
“I am calling on political leaders to caution their followers against political violence and thuggery,” he said.
He also urged government to create employment for youths in the country in order to reduce the economic hardship being faced in the country.
“If the youth are employed or empowered, the level of hardship faced by many families will reduce,” he added.
The monarch also called on the Federal Government to revive agriculture in order to attain self sufficiency in food production.
He prayed for peace, tranquility and unity in the country and the safe return of Nigerian pilgrims from the Holy land.
Meanwhile, ahead of the 2019 general elections, a pro-democracy group, the Campaign for Democracy Development in Bayelsa State, has called on the electorate to cast their votes only for credible and selfless leaders.
The CDDB stated that it was now the time for leaders from the Niger Delta region, particularly from Bayelsa State, to give back to the citizens that voted them into leadership positions.
The Executive Director and state Coordinator of the group, Dr. Konrad Welson, made the call while addressing a  crowd during a awareness and sensitisation campaign at Ekeremor Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement on Sunday, Welson said the group visited Ekeremor in continuation of its advocacy and sensitisation programmes to warn them of the dangers of voting for mediocre and selfish leaders, who after elections, would toy with their commonwealth.
Also, the state Women Leader the CDDB, Aniedim Ezowede, urged women not to allow themselves to be used by the politicians.
She called on the people of Ekeremor to shun violence during elections, adding that killing one another had never given them the needed development.
